What is the Center for Service in Action Leadership Team?
The Center for Service in Action Leadership Team (CSALT) provides the opportunity for students to act as vital members of the community, share their resources with others and develop skills and leadership abilities while creating meaningful social change. The CSALT work to support all CSA events and initiatives, and act as hosts to in-person volunteer events to engage fellow students in service to the local San Luis Obispo Community.
CSALT originally founded under the name Student Community Services (SCS) was established in 1972 and is a student-run program within the Center for Service in Action. The organization is designed to provide opportunities for community involvement that meet a broad range of student interests while providing meaningful service to the off-campus community. In 1995, students passed a referendum allocating a student fee to support Student Community Services. The student fee is designated to provide opportunities for career, leadership, and personal development, increased opportunities to work experience related to majors, support for individual student and service-oriented projects, and funds to support individuals and clubs dedicated to volunteer service.
Interested in Volunteering?
Our Volunteer Service Matchmaking program is just for you!
Through a peer-advising model, our CSALT members can sit down with you to explore your career goals, major course of study, interests, passions, and past service experiences that have been positive for you. Based on that conversation, they will put together a list of recommended service sites among our community partner agencies. Our community partners range from human & social services to animal welfare, the environment, and everything in between. Your list of sites will include information on each agency, and contact information for signing up for your first service experience.
