The seventh annual Change the Status Quo Conference featured 17-year old Maryland student, Spencer Brodsky who began a project which helped women and families in Darfur, with the donation of fuel-efficient stoves through CHF International.

Highlighted Events: A word from poet Joe Hernandez-Kolski, Preview Night, Empower Poly by Roy Zimmerman

The sixth annual Change the Status Quo Conference featured the Senior Vice President of Campaigns for PETA who launched the “Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur” campaign nude on the streets of Tokyo among many other campaigns.

5th Annual CSQ: A Student's Role in Shaping Society

Keynote: Dave Smiley, Prado Day Center Board President on Working to End Homelessness in SLO County

Workshop Themes: Feminism, Politics, Health, Other, Politics, Environmentalism, Conscious Consumption, LGBT Rights

Highlighted Events: Preview Night, Slam Poetry, Yoga at Chumash Auditorium

The fifth annual Change the Status Quo Conference began with a mini-preview night of the Saturday workshops followed by slam poetry. Conference day began with some optional yoga in Chumash auditorium followed by breakfast and the keynote speaker, Dan Smiley whose involvement in the Ministerial Association led him to be a part of the board of Grassroots II, FEMA and Friends of the Prado Day Center.

Highlighted Events: Slam Poetry, “What If…”, Closing Art Installation

The fourth annual Change the Status Quo Conference aimed to foster a space for individuals who valued their community, environment, and the empowerment of all. Some workshops featured from this conference included: “Why You Should Care About the Ivorian Cocoa Farmer”, “Redefining Capitalism: Alternatives to the Corporate Model”, and “Post 9-11 Amereica: The Civil Rights Struggle Continues”.

Highlighted Events: Slam Poetry, Open Mic Poetry, Marketplace for Responsible Action, Networking

The third annual Change the Status Quo Conference kicked off on Friday night with a high-energy event full of presentations by campus organizations where they defined the status quo and described how it impacts diverse communities and individuals. The evening ended with a Slam Poetry event and open mic Followed by eighteen workshops on Saturday focused on developing solutions to the problems addressed in these workshops.
