The Center for Service in Action (CSA) at Cal Poly connects students with meaningful community service opportunities that complement their educational experience, strengthen their understanding of diversity and social responsibility, and develop skills to become ethical and knowledgeable leaders who contribute to a global society. The CSA cultivates reciprocal service and learning partnerships between the university and community partner agencies, serving community-based organizations and governmental institutions seeking University support to address unmet community needs.

Grant Holiday Wishes for Local Kids & Teens

The Center for Service in Action (CSA) invites all students, staff, faculty, alumni and supporters to contribute to the Mustang Holiday Gift Drive. Last year we provided more than 350 gifts to local children and teens for the holidays, and we are hoping to donate even more this year with your support. We are once again partnering with the San Luis Obispo County Department of Social Services and the Housing Authority of SLO

While most gift requests are in the $30-40 range, donations of any amount (no matter how small) can be made online through our direct giving link to help fulfill a child’s wish. If you are local and would like to go shopping for a specific gift instead of donating online, please stop by one of our giving tower locations on campus to pick up a gift wish tag. Giving towers are located on the first floor of Kennedy Library (Bldg. 35), the second floor of the University Union (Bldg. 65), and in front of the Mustang Success Center in the Science Building (Bldg. 52, Room D37).

Bring newly purchased, unwrapped gift items to the Center for Service in Action (Sierra Madre 113 – L119) by Friday, December 2 to help make a child smile this holiday season!

The Center for Service in Action has moved locations! We are now located in the single story office attached to the Sierra Madre residence hall lobby and common room, right across from Scout Coffee, and next door to Vista Grande. We love visitors so next time you are out grabbing a coffee or meal, stop by and say hi!

The Center for Service in Action (CSA) has returned to in-person operations for the 2021-22 academic year.  We do require that student visitors to our center be masked and show a green campus pass upon entry.

We continue to have virtual service opportunities for those who remain more comfortable with this mode of service.  Students can text 'CPService' to 22828 to get signed up for our e-newsletter, which will keep everyone posted on service opportunities in the weeks and months to come.

If you need more information about the impact of COVID-19 on Cal Poly students, updates from the administration, helpful resources, and FAQs, please consult the Cal Poly Coronavirus website.

For more information on community service during this time, please check out our in-person and virtual community service pages. For more information on donating to our Community Partner agencies, please check out our donations page.
